| In 1983, the parasitism of Mytilus edulis L. by Proctoeces maculatus (Loose, 1901) Odhner, 1911 (Trematoda, Digenea, Fellodistomatidae), was recorded for the first time by the authors from mussels farming on stakes (Western Cotentin). After analysing the distribution of the prevalence on the shore and bibliographical data, it was suggested that this parasite must follow a biological cycle that had never been observed on the French coasts and that the most probable host of eggs producer - adult or progenetic metacercaria - would not be a fish but the Prosobranch Gasteropod Nucella lapillus .
